About me
With over 15 years of teaching experience and a decade supporting adults with learning disabilities, I bring a wealth of expertise and passion to my work. After achieving my PGCE with QTS, I taught in mainstream secondary schools, specialising in A-Level Psychology and providing dedicated support to SEN students in their BTEC courses. For eight years, I taught sixth form students at an NAS accredited SEN secondary school that achieved Outstanding Ofsted ratings for three consecutive years, where I honed my skills in creating inclusive, supportive learning environments tailored to individual needs.
For the past two years, I have also been tutoring privately, helping students achieve their academic and personal goals through a bespoke, therapeutic approach. Additionally, as a counsellor in training, I integrate my understanding of emotional well-being into my teaching to foster confidence and resilience in my students.
My teaching approach is therapeutic, calm, and compassionate, with a strong emphasis on nurturing students’ confidence, fostering effective communication, and supporting their emotional regulation. This holistic method creates a balanced and supportive learning environment where students are empowered to thrive both academically and personally.
I offer support with Maths & English (KS2 , KS3 & KS4 and Functional Skills), PSHE, and ancillary subjects that focus on students’ well-being, interests, and functional skills.
I am a trained Mindfulness teacher and incorporate my knowledge of mindfulness, neuroscience, and psychology to help students understand and regulate their emotions.
I also deliver workshops to other teachers on emotional regulation strategies, including daily meditation.
My specialist experience is working with young people with ADHD, ASD, PDA, trauma, non-verbal communication, anxiety, ESL, epilepsy, and challenging behaviours.
I develop a nurturing and understanding rapport with my students, integrating their special interests into lessons to enhance engagement and self-esteem. My approach is warm, non-judgmental, and therapeutic, with predictable and consistent lesson routines.
I maintain a calm, low arousal and structured environment to minimise sensory overload to aid learning.
Tasks are divided into smaller segments to enable shorter periods of focus. I use clear instructions and visual aids to accommodate their visual learning styles, and incorporate sensory and movement breaks to help refocus their attention.
My approach includes games, multi media resources and practical activities, creating strong links between the curriculum and real-life experiences, enhancing problem-solving skills, and bridging gaps in understanding.
I set homework to consolidate learning and provide support through visual aids and personalised explainer videos, ensuring students have accessible resources for reference and reinforcement.
